Again…
This is the story of a few good people living separate lives—never imagining that their paths would one day cross, and that from that moment on, none of their lives would ever be the same.
Hello, readers…
By now, you’ve already met A Boy Named Chinmaya.
Now, it’s time to meet A Girl Named Heer.
Heer was the kind of person who made others feel comfortable without even trying. She was warm, thoughtful, and quietly confident. She listened more than she spoke, believed in treating people with kindness, and carried herself with a simplicity that was hard to miss. There was no need for her to be the loudest person in the room—her sincerity spoke for itself. She valued relationships, respected people, and had a way of finding joy in the little things that most of us overlook. Like everyone else, she had her own dreams, her own fears, and her own imperfections, but what truly set her apart was her genuine heart. If you met Heer only once, you would probably remember her as a good person. If you knew her well, you would understand that she was much more than that.
Until then, Chinmaya and Heer had been living their own lives, unaware of what lay ahead. They had known of each other for a few years through common friends, but their interactions had always been limited to polite greetings and occasional conversations.
Everything changed around March 2035.
At a get-together hosted by a mutual friend, they found themselves talking—not out of obligation, but out of genuine curiosity. One conversation led to another, and before they knew it, they had discovered an effortless comfort in each other’s company.
The conversations didn’t end when the evening did. They continued over phone calls, then became a part of their everyday lives. What began as an occasional chat slowly turned into conversations that stretched from early mornings to late nights, weaving themselves through the day in between work, routines, and everything else. Neither of them noticed when talking to each other became a habit, and strangely, neither of them questioned it. It simply felt natural.
The conversations continued, and over the next few weeks something began to change—quietly, almost without either of them noticing. Around after a month of connecting, Heer finally found the courage to tell Chinmaya what had been on her mind. She spoke about the feelings that had slowly grown within her and about the strange yet undeniable connection she had been sensing between them ever since they had started talking.
Chinmaya didn’t interrupt. He simply listened, giving her the space to say everything she wanted to say.
The very next morning, however, his phone buzzed with a message from Heer.
She asked him to forget everything she had confessed the night before.
A week passed, and things slipped back into their usual rhythm. They kept talking as if nothing had happened. Chinmaya did try to bring up her confession once, but Heer gently brushed it aside. He understood the hint and didn’t press the matter any further.
Life carried on, and so did their conversations. They spoke about almost everything—work, family, random thoughts, dreams, fears, and, every now and then, the deeper, spiritual side of life. Hours would pass without either of them noticing.
Whenever they met, the conversations were surprisingly short.
They would ask the usual questions—work, family, how things were going—but somehow those weren’t the moments either of them remembered later.
What stayed with Chinmaya was the silence after the conversation ended. Neither seemed in a hurry to leave.
It was difficult to explain, and perhaps that was why neither of them really tried. They often found themselves wondering how two people who had spent so little time together in person could feel so deeply connected.
Or perhaps… somewhere in another universe, or along a different timeline, they’re still wondering. 😉
As time passed, Chinmaya often found himself thinking about the connection they had built in such a short span. There was something about it that felt effortless—almost too natural to explain. He never felt the need to dissect it or force logic into it. Some things, he believed, were better experienced than analyzed.
To him, this was one of those rare connections where conversations flowed with ease, silences never felt awkward, and each interaction seemed to leave both of them feeling lighter than before. It was as if they instinctively balanced each other—her feminine energy complementing his masculine, each bringing out something in the other without either of them trying. Whether it was coincidence, destiny, or simply two souls meeting at the right time, Chinmaya didn’t know. And perhaps he didn’t need to.
The thought stayed with Chinmaya for days. Rather than making assumptions, he decided it was better to ask Heer how she truly felt.
Sometime in May 2035, he asked her a simple but honest question: “Do you see us as a couple someday?“
For a moment, Heer didn’t know how to respond. The question caught her completely off guard. She wasn’t expecting it, and it took her a while to gather her thoughts. What surprised Chinmaya, however, was that she didn’t dismiss him or make light of what he had said. Instead, she listened quietly and let him speak.
When she finally responded, she told him that she didn’t think his feelings were what he believed them to be. In her view, they were probably fleeting—something that would fade away in a week or two once the excitement settled. She gently tried to convince him that he wasn’t thinking clearly and shouldn’t read too much into what he was feeling.
Chinmaya heard her out without interrupting. When it was his turn to speak, he calmly told her that he had thought about it carefully and was certain about how he felt. At the same time, he reassured her that there was no pressure on her to feel the same way. If she didn’t, he would understand.
While all of this was unfolding, Chinmaya couldn’t help but notice something that quietly stayed with him. Although Heer kept telling him that a future together wasn’t possible, many of the thoughts she shared through her social media posts and status updates seemed, at least to him, to echo the very emotions he had been trying to put into words. Chinmay observed all this silently but never mentioned it to her, as she clearly told him that “it is not possible”
Chinmaya didn’t reach out to Heer for the next week. From what she had said, he understood that she needed some time, and he wanted to respect that. He gave her the space she seemed to be asking for.
After a week, he sent her a message. He explained why he had stayed away and, without trying to persuade her, simply expressed what he genuinely felt.
Her reply was clear and unambiguous.
She told him that “she no longer had that part of herself left to give to anyone, and that a relationship between them wasn’t possible”.
Chinmaya read her message in silence. There was nothing to argue, nothing to prove, and nothing to convince her of. He accepted her words for what they were and chose to respect her decision.
Life eventually brought them together a few more times. Whenever they met, they greeted each other warmly and exchanged a few words, but both were careful not to cross the boundaries that had quietly formed between them. Their conversations remained cordial, brief, and respectful.
For Chinmaya, it was never about pretending that nothing had happened. It was about honoring the place Heer had chosen to stand. He believed that not every meaningful connection was meant to become a relationship. Sometimes, the kindest thing two people can do is preserve each other’s dignity, value what they shared, and part without resentment. The feelings may have changed, but the respect he had for her never did.
Chinmaya couldn’t shake the feeling that Heer was carrying the weight of experiences, she hadn’t fully healed from. Whether he was right or wrong, he believed that her hesitation wasn’t rooted in a lack of emotion but in wounds that time had not yet softened. He never tried to force that belief on her, nor did he expect her to see things the way he did.
To him, what they had found together felt rare—one of those connections that arrive quietly and change the course of a person’s life. He saw it as a blessing, something that deserved patience rather than pressure. Walking away without giving it his absolute best never felt right to him.
So, instead of chasing answers, he chose to step back. He wanted to give Heer the time and space she needed, hoping that, if life had something more in store for them, it would unfold naturally. And if it didn’t, he wanted to know that he had respected both her journey and the bond they shared.
From Chinmaya’s perspective, Heer seemed to be carrying far more within her than she ever allowed the world to see. On the outside, she appeared composed, confident, and always in control—a picture of grace and quiet strength. But every once in a while, he caught glimpses of a different side, one that seemed guarded, conflicted, and emotionally overwhelmed.
He often felt that before Heer could truly understand what she was feeling, she first needed to feel completely safe with those emotions. In his eyes, she needed patience, reassurance, and the freedom to let her guard down without fear of being judged. Only then, he believed, would she be able to recognize and accept what her heart had been trying to tell her all along.
Life moved on, at least on the surface.
Days turned into weeks, but Chinmaya never looked at that conversation as the end of their story. He accepted her words, yet somewhere deep within, he couldn’t ignore the feeling that they hadn’t reflected everything she was going through. From everything he had come to know about Heer, he believed she often chose the safer words over the vulnerable ones. It seemed easier for her to push people away than to confront emotions she wasn’t yet ready to face.
He never claimed to know what was in her heart. That would have been unfair. But he trusted the connection they had shared enough to believe that some conversations are spoken not just through words, but through pauses, silences, and everything left unsaid. So, instead of searching for signs or demanding certainty, he chose patience. If he had understood her correctly, time would reveal it. And if he hadn’t, he would still be at peace knowing that he had respected both her words and her journey.
And then…
Every once in a while, his phone would ring.
He would glance at the screen.
It was Heer.
To be continued… Chapter II awaits.
